Exhibitions

“Annual Exhibition of Selected Paintings by American Artists”, Detroit Institute of Art, Detroit, Michigan

(label attached verso)

NOTE:

The Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) called and said that it was difficult to determine, but they think that Springtime was in an exhibition called "Annual Exhibitions for Michigan Artists under the Auspices of the Scarab Club", dating February 2nd- 28th, 1925. There were two paintings by Nash in this exhibition titled NM Landscape 1 and NM Landscape 2....

The printed name of the exhibition is crossed out on the label, which may be good reason to believe it was in the exhibition called "Annual Exhibitions for Michigan Artists under the Auspices of the Scarab Club". They may have just attached a standard label to the back of the piece.

The DIA also said that he exhibited quite a bit in the Annual shows for Michigan Artists. Nash was originally from Philadelphia but studied at the Detroit School of Fine Art before moving to New Mexico in the early 1920s.
